National Park Service: Two American Entrepreneurs: Madam CJ Walker & JC Penny
Today’s Site of the Day gives two powerful examples of what the American dream really means – working hard to get ahead.
Students are able to use excellent primary reading sources, lesson plan ideas, pictures, and critical thinking questions to complete an investigation into the struggles faced by business entrepreneurs. By focusing on an African American female entrepreneur and a European American male entrepreneur, this lesson sets up a valuable contrast regarding how gender and race affected peoples’ possibilities to succeed.
