Welcome to Women’s History Month!  Welcome to a world where women rule!

Use powerful advanced searching techniques to search for resources within a topic like “Women.” Try “women” as your keyword, then use the Subject Refinement Menu to narrow the resources in the area of Social Studies and Politics.  OR, check out the Search in Context feature! Use the drill-down approach to get to the Politics area under Social Studies, then use “women” as your keyword and select the Search in Context box.  This will keep your search results focused on great resources such as today’s Site of the Day!

The International Museum of Women (a museum dedicated to women)  offers an online museum exhibition organized around nine themes related to women, power and politics. Learn how women around the world continue to claim a place at the political table, what forces have tried to keep them away, and where they are claiming victories. Themes include Power, Environment, Voting, Appearance and Religion, among others.

So, studying Henri Matisse in Art History isn’t engaging your students?  Try using netTrekker’s refinement menu for Interactive Media. netTrekker can help you find sites that get your students actively involved in learning and creating their own “Matisse like” work.  For example, today’s Site of the Day features a simple, fun game for young learners that allows them to create a design inspired by the work of artist Henri Matisse. Students get to learn about layering, manipulating shapes and other elements of art and design.

Today’s Site of the Day gives a great example of students showing what they can do with technology! Two 13 year-old students created an award winning film on the Manhattan Project and the decision to drop an atomic bomb on Japan. In this film they are able to interview Nobel Prize winners, the mayor of Hiroshima, and other important people. The video gives students a good understanding of this difficult topic, and shows them how a simple summer film project can turn into much more! When presented at the UN, the film got a standing ovation and an encore showing.
