Between WWI and WWII, November 11 was commemorated as Armistice Day in the United States, Great Britain, and France.   After the World War II, the date was changed to celebrate and honor the Veterans of both wars – which led to the name being changed to “Veterans Day.”

Learn more about the history of the day from the Library of Congress American Memory project.  This Site of the Day links you to original documents including photos, interviews, letters and music from the period.
